Bipolar Disorder

The bipolar condition manifests itself with mood swings. A mania or elevated, irritable mood precedes a melancholy, anxious mood. This mood swing occurs during normal periods of even temperament. Some individuals repeat the mood swing over and over again. This is called rapid cycling. There exists bipolar I, bipolar II, and cyclothymia, with bipolar I being the most mild.

This condition is found among people who are artistic. During the manic phase, they are outgoing, creative, and highly motivated. A question many people ask is, “were creative geniuses bipolar?” Many people believe Vincent van Gogh suffered from this disorder.

Bipolar mood swing disorder is inherited. The disorder can also be brought about by traumatic life experiences, such as, from enduring child abuse or from living in a harsh environment. Bipolar mood swings begin in later adolescence or early adult. This disorder may continue on for a few older adults. However, the bipolar disorder seen in older people is from a neurological damage. The onset of bipolar, then, is caused from inability of blood vessels to carry blood. This new on-set starts with people who are 40-years-old, especially women.

People who were born in winter seem to be susceptible to this condition. Their mania occurs in the summer, and their depression occurs in darker months. Then, you’ll see this condition in people whose birth was complicated. Lesions were formed in the brain followed by an infection.

The disorder occurs in both genders; however, more women than men have the more severe level. If you’ve been diagnosed with the bipolar disorder, and are unable to find work because of it, you may qualify for disability insurance.
