Young People With Bipolar


A person that has been diagnosed as bipolar has very wide mood swings. They can be very high, and then all of a sudden their mood will change to a low and be irritable and sad. There are also mixed moods and normal moods. In the mixed mood the person can be angry, aggressive, and easily frustrated. They can appear impatient or manic, and their moods can change rapidly.

Bipolar patient's intellectual process can speed up as well. This includes their creativity, thought, and ability in forming relationships. Extreme highs can make the person seem out of touch, and moderate highs can make them seem very creative. Accelerated intellectual processes of thoughts and ideas can be be overwhelming and make it hard for the person to concentrate or focus on a task. These rapid mood changes can be very exhausting on the patient and family members.

Symptoms can range from minor to soft, and mixed to severe. Often bipolar patients are misdiagnosed and treated for depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, or attention deficit disorder. Some cases respond to medications and others the medications does not last, or they enter another cycle and appears to be working.

Bipolar disorder usually begins in adolescence or early childhood and will continue throughout life. It is thought to be a genetic link, and most people with bipolar have a family history of alcoholism, emotional breakdown, gambling, family dysfunctions, and unstable lifestyles. It is also known to skip generations. Many get involved in high risk lifestyles using drugs and alcohol excessively.
