How Bipolar Medication Makes You Feel

Those people who are diagnosed with bipolar disorder may sometimes wonder which is worse, suffering with the bipolar symptoms or the symptoms that their medications cause them. This is actually one of the primary reasons that those with Bipolar Disorder stop taking their medications. The side effects of various bipolar medications can be as bad as suffering with the disease. The medications can cause nausea, dizziness, twitching of your muscles, fatigue, and even depression or mania. This would make almost anyone want to stop taking those particular medications.

Each mania episode can actually cause brain decomposition so taking your medications is very important. There are things that those taking these medications such as Lithium, Depakote and Lamictal can do to help with the side effects of the medications. These suggestions need to be discussed with your physician prior to using them. One can simply set a schedule for sleep, refusing to take anti-depressant medications, and staying in touch with your psychiatrist discussing treatment plans can help those with bipolar. You must stay on track with your medications and the side effects that they can cause. Bipolar disorder is simply a psychiatric diagnosis for mood disorder and depression.

Both of these symptoms of bipolar disorder can be treated successfully and the person with the disorder can lead a fairly normal life. The primary thing to remember is to take your medications as prescribed. Do not stop taking your medications because you feel better, and keep all your doctor appointments so you can have continuity of care. Side effects from not taking your medications can actually be much worse than when you’re taking them. Withdrawal from stopping your medications can only increase your side effects and increase the severity of them as well.
