Feeling Manic

Being manic isn’t about having a lot of energy and feeling good. The correct diagnosis for mania includes these symptoms: over-excited, hyper-active, and frantic. A person who is manic has a rapid thought process. He/she talks so fast that the words run into each other.

Feeling manic cycles with depression creating mood swings in a person. The manic phase of the cycle occurs less frequently than the depression. This condition is called the bipolar disorder, and is also known as manic-depression. Doctors aren’t sure what causes the bipolar condition. They have traced the cause to actually ninety-seven medical conditions.

Basically, you can break down two factors which cause this disorder: the environment and genetics. The bipolar disorder tends to run in the immediate family: parents, siblings, and children. However, doctors aren’t sure really how this works. Doctors have seen identical twins with the same genetic makeup. They ask themselves why is it that one twin has mood swings, and the other twin doesn’t?

Another cause of bipolar mood swings is substance abuse - drug or alcohol. Another potential cause is cold sores - the herpes simplex. Or it could be that all the stressors in your life are causing you to loose sleep. This could trigger the condition, as well. Serotonin is a hormone which acts as a neurotransmitter. Brain scans have shown patients with the bipolar disorder have a different brain structure.

The treatment for manic-depression will even out your moods; however, you have to stay on the treatment program. People do well with the medication, but as soon as they stop taking their meds, the mood swings begin again.
