People that suffer from bipolar disorder also suffer from episodes of mania, which is the high side of the disorder. A person who is bipolar can go from manic to mania, all in a matter of time.
The person who is suffering from mania feels like the king of the world. There is nothing that they cannot do. This is what causes them to take risks that they normally would not take. If a person is experiencing the psychotic part of the mania, they will also have hallucinations. These hallucinations can range from hearing voices to seeing things that are not there.
During mania, the person experiencing it does not realize the difference between a good idea and a grandiose idea. They also do not realize the negative aspects of an idea. If they do think of the negative aspects, they ignore them because they feel that it does not pertain to them.
Have you ever done something that was hard and you did it successfully? When you succeeded you felt so good about it that you felt like there was nothing you could not do. This is what a person experiencing mania feels, only on a bigger scale.
During a manic episode a person will take on too many projects and not complete any of them. They overestimate everything, from the amount of time it will take to complete a task, to thinking something hard will be easy for them to do.
Mania may start with a small symptom, such as not being able to sleep, and then progress to an increase in sex and then a state of euphoria. Even though the person feels like the king of the world, they may also show signs of being irritable and impatient. Their behavior changes extremely fast.
