Bipolar Disorder II

Bipolar two disorder is a form of mental illness when mood swings jump from high to low over time.  People with bipolar two disorders suffer from at least one episode of hypomania and manic depression. Individuals can live normal lives in between these two episodes.

Anyone can develop bipolar two disorders, and most symptoms first begin during the teen years or early 20s and before age 50.  Individuals normally run a high risk of getting bipolar two disorders when a family member has it.

The symptoms of bipolar two disorder during a hypomania episode are changing ideas suddenly, rapid pressured speech, hyperactivity, and a decreased need for sleep.  These individuals are pleasant to be around, but their behavior can soon change and lead to erratic and unhealthy behavior.  The symptoms of bipolar two disorder during a depression episode are depressed most of the day, nearly every day, insomnia, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness, suicidal, feelings of guilt, and indecisiveness.

Studies have shown that a genetic factor causes bipolar two disorder.  Researchers believe that emotional or environmental events can trigger mood disorders.

Treatments for bipolar two disorder are mood stabilizers and antidepressants that prevent negative consequences of hypomania and manic depression.  The mood stabilizers are lithium, Depakote, and Tegretol and the antidepressants are Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil.

Some episodes of bipolar two-disorder hypomania or depression can be prevented once the disorder is developed, but researchers do not know if the disorder can be prevented completely.
