Symptoms Of Manic Attack

According to Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, mania is a severe medical condition characterized by extremely elevated mood, energy, unusual thought patterns and sometimes psychosis. Symptoms of mania include rapid speech, racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, hypersexuality, euphoria, impulsiveness, grandiosity, and increased interest in goal-direct activities.  Mild mania, known as hypomnania, cause little or not impairment.

Manic symptoms also include irritability, anger or rage, delusions, hypersensitivity, hyper-religiosity talkativeness, and pressure to keep talking.  Although "severely elevated mood" sounds somewhat enjoyable, the experience of mania is often quite unpleasant, if not frightening.

Many people with bipolar disease repeat a phrase over and over.
Another symptom of mania is being able to make good judgments. Thoughts are constantly on the go and will not stop.  Symptoms can last from a few minutes or can last for weeks making episodes affect work or school. Some symptoms can cause danger. If people get to the point that they can't sleep, immediate attention is needed.

Racing thoughts play a big part of symptoms during an episode for bipolar disease.  The thoughts may be about the past that just won't go away and is completely irrelevant to what you are doing.  It may involve parts of a past conversation, parts of a movie, and hearing your own voice repeating some phrase over and over.

Most people suffering an episode will have very short attention spans. They may switch quickly from topic to topic because they can't get their thoughts out fast enough. The racing thoughts symptom is not about thinking fast, but it is a condition where the sufferer will experience never ending thoughts. This means you can't just make it stop.  There will always be something in your head that you don't even want.
