Bipolar disorder is a brain malfunction that must be controlled through treatments. Bipolar Disorder is a long term illness that there is no cure for.
When a person has Bipolar Disorder they need to keep themselves on a regular schedule. They should get up and go to bed at the same time everyday. The person with this disease needs to be busy at all times. They need to work or do other non-stressful activities such as writing, reading, or exercising. The job that they have should allow them to be on the same schedule. When their schedule gets disrupted, this could cause a manic phase or a depression phase.
The person should eat a good healthy diet that contains fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fish. A healthy diet is necessary to keep the right chemicals balance. It is not good for these people to smoke, consume alcohol, or illegal street drugs.
In order to help a person deal on a daily basis with Bipolar Disorder they need to be educated about the signs and symptoms of the disease. They need to realize when they are in "mood change time." They have to learn strategies to control the amount of stress that they are dealing with in their life.
In today's medical world doctors and researchers are using real world studies to improve treatments. These studies are replacing the clinical studies of the past that were mostly ineffective.
Talk therapy is usually helpful to people so they can learn from others that are dealing with the same situations that the person is. The person needs guidance and feedback because Bipolar Disorder is a disease that has no cure.
