Functioning with Bipolar

Having bipolar depression is much more than a normal up one day, down the next day feeling.  This disease’s peaks and valleys are much more severe and can weigh tremendously on friends and family as well as the one diagnosed with it.

There are many ways one can function and still lead a normal, healthy life with bipolar.  One of these ways is to educate yourself early about it and learn all you can so you know what symptoms to look for and be treated right away.  Keep tabs on the way you feel and record your feelings in a mood chart. It‘s an effective way to keep track of your recovery progress. Keep on a daily routine and keep it simple and stress free.  This can stabilize the mood swings of bipolar disorder.  It is also important to implement an exercise program into that routine. Exercise, regular sleep and a healthy diet will keep your brain clear and give you more energy to do the things you need to do.

Another good functioning method is to communicate your feelings with someone you trust and have a support group to keep you accountable.  When you can talk about your feelings and moods with others you won’t feel so alone and afraid and you will have more perspective on your situation.  Surround yourself with people who love you and care about you.  Take the necessary medication your doctor prescribes to you so that you can lead as normal a life as possible.  Keep a positive attitude and be patient. Keep hope that you will improve.
